Encore une belle journée qui se profile devant nous. Pas de pluie, de belles éclaircies dans le ciel malgré la présence d’un ou deux nuages menaçants et surtout, une superbe voiture sortie tout droit d’une course de DTM : la fameuse Mercedes 2.5-16 Evolution 2.

Bien sûr, elle ne passe pas inaperçue ! Avec son look extrêmement agressif, elle fait tourner plus d’une tête en rue et nous pouvons vous le certifier! Son aileron est surdimensionné et en dit long sur les performances de la voiture.

Certains, en la voyant, l’associeront peut-être au film Taxi où deux allemandes grises pourchassent le taxi de Sami Naceri mais vous n’y êtes pas du tout. Il s’agit ici du modèle 190 E 2.5 Evo 2, tiré des courses DTM et non pas de la 500 E apparue quelques mois plus tard sur le marché. Les 2 Mercedes du film sont des 500 E W124 avec le V8 5L de la 500SL : deux berlines sur-vitaminées au look plutôt banal.

Et ici, nous pouvons vous assurer qu’il ne s’agit pas d’un vulgaire taxi mais bel et bien d’une véritable voiture de sport démoniaque ainsi que l’aboutissement de nombreuses modifications successives sur base de la Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16 apparue en 1984.

Profitons-en pour revenir à cette belle époque où le sport automobile était certainement à son apogée niveau adrénaline. Mercedes sortit le modèle 190 qui fut utilisé par la marque pour participer au championnat allemand de supertourisme. Vous l’aurez bien compris, on parle du légendaire DTM.

En 1984, la marque sortit donc son modèle 190 2.3-16s civile (moteur élaboré par Cosworth) qui, vous le savez sûrement, était une réponse à la marque bmw.

Autant dire, que ce soit, sur pistes ou sur route, les deux marques se disputent le « titre ». Mercedes l’a bien compris, elle doit pouvoir rivaliser avec la M3 pour le groupe A et la 190 est le seul modèle potentiellement modifiable pour rivaliser avec une telle « bombe ».

Certains modèles ont connu pas mal d’évolutions au cours de leur carrière, c’est le cas pour la Mercedes 190 16 soupapes qui subit deux évolutions toutes deux commercialisées à +- 500 exemplaires pour permettre à la marque d’accéder à la course avec ses nouvelles modifications.

C’est en 1989 qu’apparut la première évolution de la 190, qui contrairement à ce que son appellation pouvait laisser imaginer (190 2.5-16 evo) ne disposait pas du même moteur « standard ». Le moteur de la evo est réalésé et bien d’autres modifications mécaniques lui sont apportées également afin de la rendre encore plus « nerveuse ».

Apparition également de cet imposant kit large, qui, pour certains, semblera être du tuning de mauvais goût mais qui techniquement est d’une grande utilité à la stabilité de la voiture sur piste.

Revenons-en à notre fabuleuse 190 EVO 2 qui fut présentée à Genève en mars 1990. Grosse surprise et surtout, grosse évolution! Et c’est le cas de le dire, la 2ème évolution de la 190 est tout simplement hallucinante, kit toujours aussi large, jantes en 17’’, châssis amélioré, pièces allégées, rabaissement, et aileron façon « f40 » . Concrètement, elle a de quoi imposer et peut rivaliser avec la M3 dorénavant.

Coté moteur, elle affiche + ou – 80 chevaux de moins que la version « course » utilisée en DTM, mais la version « civile » si on peut encore l’appeler ainsi avec son look Dark Vador a quand même de quoi vous scotcher au siège avec son moteur atmosphérique développant 235ch.

A l’intérieur, pas de gros changements par rapport au modèle précédent. Quelques points positifs comme une très bonne finition des matériaux utilisés ainsi qu’un équipement haut de gamme sur le tableau de bord mais malheureusement quelques points moins glamours comme le volant trop grand pour une voiture dite à caractère sportif ou les sièges qui englobent très mal les passagers ; mauvais maintien! Bref, l’intérieur est un peu simpliste pour cette deuxième évolution civile de la 190.

Quelle chance et quel plaisir pour nous d’avoir pu approcher ce petit monstre. Cette Evo 2 est magique, quel plus beau rêve que celui de posséder une voiture digne d’une course légendaire mais homologuée pour la route? Une fois de plus, un super moment passé avec son propriétaire, possédant d’excellents goûts pour l’automobile.

Son propriétaire sait très bien comment la bichonner. La evo 2 sort tout juste d’une restauration complète carrosserie chez un spécialiste qui, on peut le dire, a du talent ! Le travail est irréprochable. Tellement d’éléments fragiles à démonter pour pouvoir la repeindre entièrement que son propriétaire nous explique qu’il n’était pas à l’aise durant l’opération.

Nous nous écartons un peu de Bruxelles pour nous trouver un petit décor neutre à la hauteur de cette belle automobile. Et nous voilà à nouveau sur la route pour s’arrêter, manger un bout avec le proprio. Qui dit Belgique, dit frites bien évidement ! Nous profitons alors de cette petite pause pour en apprendre davantage sur l’histoire de cette sublime allemande.
