C’est grâce au bouche à oreille lors d’un voyage en Floride qu’ils ont pu trouver ce bijou, ils sont directement tombés sous le charme de ce fabuleux Ford F1. Premièrement car la base était très propre pour une voiture qui a plus de 60ans.

Deuxièmement car un moteur 5.7l de Corvette y avait déjà été greffé ! Ce qui est un avantage non négligeable… Même si par après ils l’ont entièrement refait pour gagner en fiabilité et surtout en puissance et quel bonheur à présent!

Enfin l’histoire de ce Ford valait à elle seule le détour! Il a été vendue neuf sur l’île d’Oahu à Hawaii et est resté là une dizaine d’année. Il a ensuite été renvoyé dans les années 60 sur le continent Américain, plus précisément dans le Kentucky et a alors servi de véhicule infirmier.

Mais malheureusement, par manque de temps il doit arrêter. C’est alors que Maxime et son père lui proposent de le racheter pour continuer la restauration.

Une fois le Ford arrivé dans leur garage en Belgique, ils ont directement continué la restauration. La carrosserie ainsi que la peinture a bien sur été refaite, dans sa couleur d’origine comme lorsque le van servait de véhicule infirmier.

Le bloc de Corvette à quant-a-lui été déposé pour pouvoir être réalésé, rectifié et ensuite préparé avec des arbres à câmes plus pointus, un carbu edelbrock 650 cfm , ainsi qu’un volant moteur allégé. L’allumage est lui passé à l’électronique ! De quoi dépasser légèrement les 400cv !

Comme le dit Maxime, avec une américaine on a la sensation de ne pas être seul à conduire la voiture, c’est ce genre de voiture qui a une âme et qui nous fait ressentir des émotions difficilement explicable.

L’intérieur à lui aussi été complètement refait, deux sièges de Silverado recouvert d’un rouge d’époque ont été installés pour le confort,  le ciel de toit a été changé, ainsi que les carpettes. Et des compteurs rétro de la marque Dolphins ont été installés pour finir le tout.

Cette belle histoire n’étant pas prête de se terminer, la voiture vient d’être achetée par Gérard Depardieu, qui étant venu vivre en Belgique près du Garage de Maxime à directement remarquer le Ford qui était dans la vitrine. Il faut dire qu’avec son énorme face avant pleine de chrome il n’est pas un modèle de discrétion !
